I have to agree that guidelines are usually necessary. Sure, it would be great if you could trust everyone in your company to always act appropriately, but that isn’t a realistic option for larger corporations. There is a reason bureaucracies exist; large-scale management isn’t build on trust, it’s built on rules and guidelines.
